Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Food Bank
Description
CIDA collaborated with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to design a new, purpose-built food pantry that significantly enhances access and services for the community. The previous pantry, located in an inconvenient area, served about 150 families per month. The new facility, thoughtfully designed and conveniently situated, now supports 290 families monthly, nearly doubling its reach.
The new pantry introduced a customer-choice model, allowing individuals to select the food items they need rather than receiving pre-packed boxes. This approach not only provides dignity and autonomy but also fosters meaningful connections between volunteers and community members. By reducing the stigma often associated with seeking assistance, the pantry has become a hub of support and interaction.
In an area where the nearest grocery store is over 30 minutes away in Salem or McMinnville, the food pantry plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity within the CTGR community. CIDA is proud to have contributed to this vital resource, ensuring it better serves the Tribe’s needs for years to come.
