The Japan Institute
Description
The Japan Institute is a Global Cultural Initiative of the Portland Japanese Garden. The Japan Institute will expand programs around the world with the new International Japanese Garden Training Center, located in Portland, OR. The new campus will be offsite of the Portland Japanese Garden on four acres in Forest Park.
The new campus includes teaching and program facilities, artist studio space, nursery lands, art and collections storage, classrooms, and outdoor hands-on work areas for training seminars, symposia, meetings, and workshops. The current buildings on the campus, built between 1914-1965, will undergo multiple renovations and repairs to update the facilities for incoming students.
Additionally, a restoration and retrofitting plan to update and reappropriate highly utilized existing gardens and facilities at Portland Japanese Garden for new programs will be required to fully address the needs of The Japan Institute for the future.
